Turn your survey objective into a practical method, positioning setup, sensor configuration and deployment plan, with equipment selected for the site and the data you need.

  • Survey methods, GNSS & sonar selection
  • ADCP siting, sensor integration & platforms
  • Remote survey QC & supplier methodology review

Remote Survey QC
& Supplier Review.

A standalone remote QC service for project teams overseeing survey suppliers. We review methodology, quality plans, calibration evidence, acquisition records and deliverables, giving your team clear technical findings and actions before mobilisation, during the survey and at handover.

01

Methods & supplier readiness

  • Review method statements, survey specifications, line plans, quality plans and proposed equipment.
  • Examine calibration and verification procedures, responsibilities and acceptance criteria.

02

Remote acquisition QC

  • Review data samples, coverage plots, sensor settings, acquisition logs and daily reports.
  • Discuss technical queries with the supplier, flag discrepancies and track agreed corrective actions.

03

Deliverables & close-out

  • Check delivered data and reports against the project specification and supporting QC evidence.
  • Provide review notes, a prioritised findings register and status summaries through technical acceptance.

Engage WGS for a one-off methodology review or recurring QC support through a campaign phase. Review frequency, access to supplier records and response windows are agreed with your team.

What Are You
Looking For?

A depth profile, a detailed seabed model or a search for small targets? The required result changes the sensors, line spacing, overlap and time on site. We compare the options against your data requirements, site conditions and budget.

01

Depth profiles

  • Single-beam measurements along planned survey lines and cross-lines, with appropriate positioning and water-level control.
  • A practical option where line-based coverage answers the brief. Where data are gridded, interpolated areas and coverage limits are documented.

02

Area coverage

  • Multibeam survey planning for the seabed coverage and feature detection required by the project.
  • Some interferometric configurations combine bathymetry and side-scan imagery, but the selected system, motion compensation and site conditions determine the usable result.

03

Specific targets

  • Wreck searches and seabed mapping to support investigation, salvage planning and marine operations.
  • A towed side-scan can keep the sensor close to the seabed where vessel-mounted range limits target resolution.
  • For ferrous targets and UXO investigations, options include a magnetometer piggybacked on a side-scan towfish or a USBL-positioned gradiometer, selected for the target and site.

Equipment Matched
to the Conditions.

Sensor performance, deployment constraints and the required data guide the equipment choice. These examples show how the recommendation changes with the site and the measurement objective.

01

Below the seabed

  • Chirp and other high-frequency profilers can resolve shallow layers where ground conditions allow.
  • Boomer or sparker configurations can investigate buried channels, sediment thickness and the top of rock, with the source selected for the required depth and resolution.
  • Source, receiver bandwidth, sediment conditions and survey setup determine usable penetration and resolution.

02

Autonomous or towed

  • A compact AUV may suit a lightly mobilised mission from a small craft or accessible shore, with a payload appropriate to the required data.
  • The mission plan covers underwater navigation, line keeping, data georeferencing and a workable recovery location.
  • In shallow or surf-affected water, we assess depth, currents, bubbles and recovery conditions against vessel-mounted and towed alternatives.

03

Wave measurements for the site

  • Wave buoys and their moorings are selected for the exposure, depth, required wave parameters and deployment duration.
  • A compact wave buoy can suit sheltered sites when its response and measurement range meet the brief. Water-level stations are specified separately for level measurements.
  • Power, telemetry, maintenance access and recovery are defined with the chosen instrument and mooring configuration.

04

Equipment supply & integration

  • We can arrange or supply instruments within the assignment, or support equipment purchased directly by the client.
  • Selection, integration, commissioning and supplier support responsibilities are made clear in the proposal.

The Right Setup
for Your Site.

We compare the technical options against your objective, site access and data requirements. You receive a documented recommendation covering the method, equipment configuration, deployment approach and checks, with the assumptions made clear.

DEPTH & COVERAGE

Single-beam
or multibeam?

What must the survey resolve? We match the sonar and line plan to the depths, coverage, seabed detail and target sizes your project needs. Multibeam provides swath coverage. Single-beam records depth along planned lines.

What guides the choice

Water depth, required uncertainty, feature detection, survey standard, sound velocity and water-level control inform the comparison. Mobilisation, vessel suitability and processing are included in the equipment recommendation.

SEABED & SUBSEABED

Which sensor
for the target?

Seabed imagery, buried layers or ferrous objects? We select side-scan, sub-bottom profiling, magnetometry or a combination around the target and required result, then define coverage and a workable sensor deployment.

What guides the choice

Target size, sediment conditions, penetration and resolution requirements, towfish altitude, positioning and platform constraints shape the sensor specification and line spacing.

GNSS & POSITIONING

Which receiver
and corrections?

What positioning performance does the job need? We compare receivers, antennas, RTK and PPP correction options against the required accuracy, site coverage, communications and continuity, including whether a local base station is needed.

What guides the choice

Reference systems, correction availability, convergence time, antenna placement, offsets and time synchronisation all matter. Motion reference and USBL are specified when the sensors or underwater positioning require them.

ADCP DEPLOYMENT

Where and how
to measure currents?

A fixed station or a moving transect? We define station locations, bottom-mounted, buoy-mounted or vessel-mounted configurations, orientation and sampling settings around the currents and depth range the project needs to measure.

What guides the choice

Depth, tidal range, seabed, traffic, beam clearance and acoustic interference inform the deployment plan. We specify measurement cells, sampling intervals, heading checks, mounting stability and recovery arrangements for the selected configuration.

DATA REQUIREMENTS

Specify the output
before the equipment.

What will your team do with the results? We agree the reference systems, resolution, coverage, formats and quality checks before selecting the acquisition setup, so the survey is designed around the products your project needs.

What you receive

A technical brief records the recommended method, equipment options, deployment assumptions and acceptance criteria. Processing and handover requirements are defined alongside acquisition.

PLATFORM & COASTAL ACCESS

Vessel, USV
or compact AUV?

How can the sensors reach the survey area? Where vessel access is constrained, we assess shore-deployed options. A compact AUV can be considered for a sonar mission, with the sensor payload, launch and recovery plan matched to the site.

Example: a coast with breaking waves

We assess depth, currents, breaking waves, acoustic conditions, underwater navigation and recovery access before recommending an AUV. Aerated water can also affect its sonar. A shore-based mission needs suitable launch and recovery conditions and positioning quality appropriate to the required data.
