Metocean &
Environmental Monitoring

Current, water-level, wave and environmental measurements, with instruments and deployment planned around the site and the data your project needs.

  • Currents, waves, tides & water data
  • Instrument selection, deployment & recovery
  • Quality-checked series & project data delivery

Two Ways to
Work With Us.

01

Measurements and deployment

  • ADCP, tide gauge, CTD and multiparameter probe configurations selected for the objective.
  • Instrument planning, deployment and recovery.
  • Current, wave and water-level data delivered with quality checks.
  • Tide analysis and predictions where the local records support them.

02

Review third-party monitoring

  • Monitoring objectives, instrument choice and sampling settings reviewed against the specification.
  • Deployment and mooring plans reviewed with the supplier.
  • Data series, quality flags and documentation checked for the intended study.

Site Measurements,
Connected to Your Team.

We select, supply and integrate wave and current buoys, seabed ADCPs, tide gauges, river flow and water-level gauges, weather stations, and water-quality and nutrient sensors. Shoreline time-lapse cameras and solar-powered stations extend the monitoring to the coast and the site itself. Power, mounting and communications are specified around the deployment.

Telemetry, online access and API integration can be included where the selected system and connectivity support them. Data checks, maintenance responsibilities and deployment dates are agreed for the mission.

Equipment can be purchased directly by the client or supplied within the mission, and rental options are assessed with suitable suppliers. River flow monitoring, harbour water levels and coastal stations are configured around the measurement objective and site constraints.

  • Tide, waves & currents
  • Water quality & weather
  • Telemetry & data integration

Seabed First,
Samples Second.

We use side-scan imagery and seabed classification to plan representative sampling stations for each seabed class. A drop camera checks the substrate before the grab goes down. On rock, the sediment station is moved to suitable ground and the change is recorded.

Van Veen grabs collect sediment and Niskin bottles sample the water column. Samples are logged and photographed on deck, then sent to the laboratory for grain-size and contaminant analysis under the agreed sampling programme. You receive a report for each station, with its position, observations, sample records and analytical results.

  • Grain size & contaminants
  • Port silt & dredged material

WATER COLUMN

ADCP, CTD, SVP &
Multiparameter Probes

Need currents, water levels or water quality? ADCPs measure current profiles. CTD and multiparameter probes measure temperature, conductivity, salinity and water-quality parameters such as pH, according to the sensors fitted. Sound-velocity profiles support acoustic corrections and can also inform environmental studies.

Technical context

The team’s experience includes Valeport, AML, WiMo and CastAway CTD, sound-velocity and multiparameter instruments, alongside ADCP current profiling. Sensor range, calibration, mounting and sampling settings are specified for each deployment.

Example scope

METOCEAN

Current & Tide
Monitoring

Turn a monitoring objective into a practical, deployment-ready system.

  • Site baseline & bathymetry
  • Quality-checked series & project data delivery
  • Buoys, moorings & vessel coordinated with the supplier
  • Tide analysis and predictions from suitable local records

Measurements for
Studies & Operations.

Illustrative examples. Products and interpretation are defined around the measurements and any model data available for the project.

Current roses

Current speed and direction statistics at each station, with the measurement depths and period stated.

Water-level and current series

Observed series with timestamps and quality flags, with water levels tied to the project datum. Validated predictions can be shown separately.

Flood, mid-tide

Model-derived current fields

Spatial flow patterns from a specified model, interpreted alongside observations where model data form part of the scope.

A Deliverable Tailored to Your Use

Formats and contents are agreed at the outset: quality-checked series, GIS layers, a report or an SSDM dataset, according to the intended use and available data.

  • GIS-ready dataGeoreferenced stations, quality-checked time series, current roses, bathymetry and sediment polygons, with deployment records, metadata and coordinate references.
  • ReportDeployment, instrument configuration, calibration, quality checks, results and limits documented for your project team, with station reports and laboratory results for sampling campaigns.
  • SSDM databaseBathymetry, sediment types, seabed classification and sediment characterisation structured to the agreed Seabed Survey Data Model version and client schema. Current roses, tide predictions and predicted tide tables complete the project package, with reference systems, metadata and quality checks.
